Entry November 7

With a worried frown on his face, Cappe entered the kitchen
this morning, telling us the boy was laying under the breadfruit
tree in pain and asking for help. Almost before the sentence was
completed, Fez was on his feet with the first aid kit heading for
Gove Site. Cappe grabbed another blanket and was right behind him.
Returning an hour later, Fez explained the boy had a slight fever.
He dressed the wound and gave the boy two painkillers. Conversation
was minimal as they watched and waited for the boy's pain to subside.
Before leaving him with instructions to rest, Fez handed the boy a few
more painkillers.

After cleansing and redressing the boy's hand today, Fez felt there was no
danger of infection, the wound would heal nicely and the boy was having less pain.
Sighing in relief, we are thankful an outsider did not have to be called in.

Entry November 10

Late in the night Fez awoke to the bleating of a goat in terror.
Recognizing the sound of an animal in despair, Fez prepared to drag himself
out to the rescue. Abruptly, the noises stopped. Fez dropped back off into sleep.
We learned this morning the ewe had
given birth in the night. While trying to shelter her young, the ewe had
circled around and around, wrapping the rope tight on her neck.
The boy, realizing the importance of our animals, had quickly gone
and saved the ewe from hanging by its tether.
We have a warm feeling of kindness towards the boy, who,
himself in pain, walked almost a half mile to rescue an animal.

Entry November 11

Earlier today a group of school children raided a distant neighbors garden, causing
expensive losses of plants and seedlings. A complaint was lodged at the police station.
Immediately the police suspected the fugitive. They asked again for guide volunteers to
lead them through the dense mountain area along the south coast, where even an old
and experienced tracker would have difficulty. In spite of the heavy losses of our
neighbor, the police remain helpless as again, no volunteers come forward.
